Group Lessons for Adults & Kids

The Upper Hand Group (55 or Better And The Adult Beginner)

This is the always-wanted-to, never-had-the-chance, should’ve, would’ve, could’ve program designed for you! In fact, your blood pressure will probably drop as a result of this class. This is recreational music making at its finest. This innovative program is a first of its kind, and you won’t find it anywhere else in Edmonton or Sherwood Park. Don’t let the kids have all the fun! The forefathers of recreational music making Karl Bruhn and Barry Bittman define RMM as the following:

“Recreational Music Making refers to any form of music making that is not based on mastery of performance. It encompasses enjoyable, accessible and fulfilling group or individual music-based activities that unite people of all ages regardless of their challenges, backgrounds, ethnicity, ability or prior experience. From exercise, nurturing, social support, bonding and spirituality, to intellectual stimulation, heightened understanding and enhanced capacity to cope with life’s challenges, the benefits of RMM extend far beyond music. RMM ultimately affords unparalleled creative expression that unites our bodies, minds and spirits.”Karl Bruhn & Barry Bittman

We agree. This is why we have put together a program based on the demand and need of the aging population and adult beginner that meets their needs…finally.

This is not about creating a performer – This is about you, creating yourself.

The Upper Hand program is NOT about performance or the final product. This program is not about finding out if you are a “talented musician” or making you ready to play for the recital, or singling you out to play in front of the group. This is about finding a love and joy of music that can transform your life. This program creates many musical and non-musical benefits in your life. Not only will you have exceptional support from the group and opportunities for performances and piano parties, but you will rediscover the joy of the process.

There are many fears that come with undertaking anything new or trying something you may have failed at in the past, especially when it comes to piano & music. “Everyone can play to learn and learn to play” is our philosophy. In fact, most hobbyists and amateurs are the ones that get the most out of the program.

This program offers something different. You will never be singled out. Somewhere along the line, we forget that learning can be fun.

You will be playing with both hands from the first lesson. The class is unique in its scope in that it can teach the same material to everyone, but cater to the individual by making the material beginner, intermediate or advanced. You are able to participate at your own level. You’ll get theory in small bites, with huge bites of playing and songs the group chooses to play. What normally takes 2-3 years, you will be doing in 5-6 months in this program. Come and get the Upper Hand.

We have a scheduled Upper Hand class on Thursday evenings, however, if you have a group of up to four adults interested in doing piano lessons together, we can always try to accommodate a weekly session for your group.  Please contact us for details!
