About the Instructor
Jan Janovsky is a dynamic musician and the owner of Classic Studios. He is recognized as a highly sought after collaborative artist and master instructor. Performing internationally as a Music Director for cruiselines such as Holland America and as a headlining act for Seaborne, Princess, and others, he has been at the helm of cruise ship entertainment.
“For music comedy, Jan is the Man.” (Cam Fuller, Star Phoenix.) He has written his own show, “Play Piano Play “ which received critical acclaim during his 2014 Canadian Fringe Tour. He is also the keyboardist with Edmonton super groups – Joe Piccolo & Swing the Cat and the Kim Lesaca Project.
Trained as a classical and jazz pianist, Jan received his piano performance degree with distinction from the University of Saskatchewan and a diploma in jazz performance with distinction from Humber College. He has studied classical piano with Kathleen Solose and Bonnie Nicholson, composition with Gyula Csapo, and jazz with Juno award winners Hilario Duran and Don Thompson.
Jan’s eclectic experience as concert pianist, performer, teacher-artist, and lecturer has led to a rich and colorful background that can give students an edge in the music industry. He has taught for over 15 years and has dedication and passion for finding the unique voices of his students. Jan’s students are regular Music Festival winners in Sherwood Park and Edmonton and go on to participate in provincial and national competitions. Students receive top marks in RCM examinations and are positive role models in the community. His students are regularly accepted into music universities of their choosing and complete successful auditions for commercial work.
