Our policies

Registration implies that you agree with the items below

Financial

All lessons are to be paid in-advance on a monthly basis. The full amount of the invoice must be paid with no deductions or adjustments. Payments for individual lessons are not accepted.

There are no pay-as-you go lessons. Students commit to one lesson per week based on the EIPS calendar. There are no lessons on statutory holidays.

There is a $75.00 registration fee which is non-refundable. This covers all recitals, Masterclasses, performances and audio programs.

All post-dated cheques for monthly payments must be submitted on or before the first class to secure your lesson time. Payments may also be made in cash or by e-Transfer. Any NSF payments will be subject to a fee of $50.00.

In case of late payment, a $10.00 fee will be charged to the student and/or the student’s parent or guardian and will be added to the payment amount on the subsequent invoice.

Additional private lessons, examination preparation, festival preparation, university audition preparation, or theory & harmony lessons can be arranged on a case-by-case basis. Cheques are to be made payable to Classic Studios. You can also now pay online through PayPal, however, there is a 3% fee to do so.

You can pay by through paypal on our online invoice, post-dated cheques, cash, or send e-transfer to info@classicstudios.ca

Payments

Group-class tuition must be paid in full by the start of classes either as one lump sum or monthly post-dated cheques.

Lesson cancellations & rescheduling

In order to cancel or reschedule a lesson, the student or the student’s parent or guardian must notify Classic Studios directly, at least 24 hours prior to the lesson. Students who fail to provide 24 hours advance notice will be charged in full for that scheduled lesson.

Make-up lessons will be provided at no additional charge as long as 24 hours advance notice has been given. There are never refunds for missed lessons. Cancelled or rescheduled lessons are limited to two per semester (Sept-Dec, Jan-June). Make-up lessons are not carried over into the next semester.  Any lessons cancelled or rescheduled above and beyond two per semester will be charged in full and not made-up. Exceptions and emergencies happen. Talk to us. These circumstances will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Lessons can also be made up online.

If you have a vacation coming up, please give us a two-week’s notice. All cancelled or rescheduled lessons will be made up at the discretion and convenience of the teacher.

Missed or cancelled lessons will not be deducted from the invoice. There are never refunds for missed lessons. If a student misses a rescheduled lesson, the lesson is considered to have been given and no refund will be provided.

There are occasions where your teacher might have to miss a lesson: they will either find a substitute teacher or reschedule at a time convenient for both you and them.

If you have Jan Janovsky as a teacher and you cancel a lesson, he will either make-up the lesson at an appropriate time or he will most likely find an appropriate substitute. Due to the demanding performance schedule, most of Mr. Janovsky’s lessons will be made-up in the summer.

For in-home lessons

Parents/Guardians must be present at all times during in-home lessons for children. You do not necessarily need to participate in the lesson, but do need to be in the house and be present for the last 3 minutes of the lesson so the instructor can communicate with you the homework and progress of your child.

  1. If your teacher is absent, they will arrange a make-up lesson with you.
  2. Teachers do not accept financial payments of any kind. All payments must be made through Classic Studios.
  3. Teachers are not required to give out their personal cell numbers.
  4. Teachers have no control over policies. All policy inquiries must go through Classic Studios/Jan Janovsky.

Liability

Classic Studios is a member of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers Association and reserves the right to change and/or modify our policies at any time.

Termination of service

Complete lesson termination must be given in writing with one month’s notice prior to cancellation. Classic Studios follows the EIPS division calendar and observes statutory holidays. No refund or credit will be given for any cancellations part way through a month. Exceptions on medical grounds, however, may apply.

Pick-up & drop-off for studio lessons

Please arrive five minutes early in picking up your child. This allows time to talk with your child’s instructor. You are also responsible for the care and supervision of your child before and after the lesson. Please be mindful of other students’ lessons, privacy and be punctual with picking up and dropping off your child.

Studio lessons with Jan Janovsky are located at 37 Meadowbrook Road in Sherwood Park. There is no waiting area and usually no one likes an audience.

Policies for Giant Steps & Upper Hand group lessons

As group classes need a minimum of 3 enrollments, classes may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. In this event, all families will be notified prior to the first class and a refund or alternate class time will be offered. If a student cancels their spot in a group class before the first lesson, the tuition will be refunded minus a $25.00 processing fee. If the cancellation occurs after the first class, the tuition will be refunded less $55.00. If the cancellation occurs after the second class, no refunds or credits will be issued.

If there are not enough students to run the group class, a full refund will be given.

Vandalism

If vandalism occurs and is witnessed by the instructor, parents will be responsible for the damages incurred.

Contact information

Please update the studio of any changes in address, phone number, e-mail address or any other pertinent contact information. Thank you.

Awareness of commitment

I am aware that as the parent it is my job to make sure the student:

  1. Practices a minimum of 3 times a week (beginners) for a minimum of 10 min each time.
  2. Is prepared and at the lesson location on time each week.
  3. Has a parent/guardian present during the last 3 minutes of the lesson to communicate with the instructor so they know what happened in the lesson.

If you are a member of the Throne of Glory music program, you must also consent to volunteering once a month. You will require a Vulnerable Sector Check for this. Please contact the office at the Throne of Glory for further details.
